Rockets can’t slow Champion bats in 4-AA final

BELL BUCKLE — Not much went the Forrest Rocket’s way in the Region 4-AA championship last weekend against Cascade.
The Champions continued their hot-streak as of late and hammered out a 17-6 win over the Rockets to take the region title and send Forrest to the consolation bracket.
With the new format in region and sectional play this year, the loss in the region championship game forced Forrest to play East Nashville in an elimination game on Saturday evening.
Against Cascade, however, things got off to a rocky start.
A two-out, two-RBI double put Cascade up 2-0 in the bottom of the first.
Things went from bad to worse when starting Cascade pitcher Jaxon Sheffield crushed a grand slam to bump the Champs’ lead to 7-0 by the end of the second.
But even trailing 7-0, Forrest worked a little two-out magic of its own in the top of the third inning.
Tyler Baxter singled to left and Durbin was then hit by a pitch.
A Preston Gentry single loaded the bases for Kason Fuller, who plated two runs on a line drive to left field.
A third Rocket run scored on a Cascade error, bringing Forrest within four of the Champion lead.
Cascade responded with a 10-run third inning to take a 17-3 lead over the Rockets.
As in the third inning, Forrest answered with three more runs, which came on a RBI single by Durbin and a two RBI double by Gentry.
But that was all the run support Forrest could muster as Cascade recorded the final three outs to claim the region title.
Gentry and Fuller both drove in two runs in the loss to Cascade.
On the mound, Durbin had a rough outing, giving up 12 runs on 13 hits in two innings.
Ryan Meglis pitched 2/3 of an inning in relief and gave up four runs on two hits before Tyler Tackett entered and pitched the final 1 1/3 inning.
Tackett didn’t give up a hit and struck out three.
