Rockets knock off state champs in regular season finale

CHAPEL HILL — In their final tune-up before the start of the postseason, it was the Forrest Rockets who knocked off the defending Class 1A state champion Eagleville Eagles on Monday night.
The Rockets found themselves in a 5-1 hole by the end of the third inning, but rallied past the Eagles with an eight-run fifth for a 9-5 win.
In the eight-run fifth, the Eagles connected on seven base hits and took advantage of an Eagleville error as well.
Luke Allen went 3-for-3 on the night with an RBI, while seven other Rockets connected for hits against the Eagles.
Austin Dillon led Forrest with two RBIs.
Four different pitchers split time on the mound for Forrest.
Carter Walk, Allen and Durbin all pitched two innings, with Durbin and Allen each recording three punch outs.
The No. 1 seeded Rockets will open the District 7-AA tournament at home on Thursday against Grundy County.
