Ten runs in the first two innings of its last two games can make a team very confident.
Forrest scored all four of its runs in the first two innings on Saturday as they came away with 4-2 non-conference home win over Lincoln County.
Six-run inning
On Monday, the Rockets (5-1, 3-0) scored six times in the first inning during an 11-2 District 9-A win over Fayetteville in Chapel Hill.
"Our goal is to win those district games," said Forrest coach Jimmy Nave.
"These guys have been playing well and we are fortunate to have a bunch of guys that can step and play well too."
Ryan Yelensky was the recipient of the early outburst on Saturday, going a solid five innings on the mound for the Rockets before Alex Brewer came on in the sixth to pick up the save after two scoreless innings in relief.
Good performance
Yelensky gave up two earned on five hits, while striking out six and walking one Lincoln County batter.
Brewer did not allow a hit in his save effort, striking three and walking none.
Forrest managed just four hits in the contest with Jonathon Lykins banging out two base hits, including a double.
Austin Harmon had one hit and an RBI, while Brewer had one base knock, drove home one and scored a run.
Went distance
Forrest ace Logan "The Deuce" Hollingsworth took the hill on Monday and went the distance versus the Tigers, allowing two earned runs on two hits, while striking out five and walking one.
"We knew they were going to be a tough team, but we knew how to pitch to them from last year, so we had a pretty good idea of what we were walking in to," said Hollingsworth.
"My fastball stays pretty consistent, my breaking balls actually got stronger as the game went on and I've been working on my slider this year and it is starting to pick up."
Extra help
The Rockets got some help from Fayetteville starting pitcher Zach Harwell, who was wild in the bottom of the first inning, hitting two Forrest batters and walking five in the six-run frame.
Forrest only had eight hits in the game, but wound up with 10 bases on balls versus three Fayetteville pitchers.
"I think we had a little letdown after that first inning," said Nave.
"I think kids can sometimes think it's going to be easy, but you have to keep playing and put your opponents away."
At the plate
Yelensky had two more hits versus the Tigers and scored twice, plus had two RBIs.
Cain Harrison turned in a solid effort at the plate for the Rockets, going 2-3 with a pair of RBIs.
Harmon (1-2, 2RS, RBI, BB), Brewer (1-3, 2RS, 2BB), Jacob Jones (1-1, 2RS, 3BB), and Slayton Wild (1-2) all had one hit in the contest.
