Rockets' win streak up to 6

The Forrest Rocket grapplers made it six wins in a row to start the season, sweeping Page and Eagleville in a dual meet Tuesday night in Chapel Hill.

"A lot of our kids had challenging matches tonight and they need those challenging matches, because when they get into the region tournament or the state tournament there we be those matches that will be tough," said Forrest head coach Kyle Stacey. "Any time a wrestler can wrestle in a match like that, it is good for them."

Close contest

The Rockets found themselves in a dogfight with the Patriots in the opening match as the lead exchanged hands four times before a Jamie Boyce pin over John Noe in the 182-pound weight class gave Forrest the lead for good.

Dylan Pendley took a forfeit win in the 113-pound division to start the contest before C.J. Monce pinned Reynold Anthony for a 6-0 Forrest lead.

Page's Lee Pennington defeated Peyton Sisk on an injury default, but Cage Hargrove picked up the injured Sisk when he followed with a pin over Cole Bailey in the 132-pound weight class.

"It's just a shame about Sisk; he won the wrestle-offs yesterday and was really excited about tonight," said Stacey. "He is a tough kid and loves the sport, so I am sure he will be back."

Patriot comeback

The Patriots came back on consecutive pins, beginning with Brian Lacey over Joseph Williams in the 138-pound position.

Andrew Birchett's pin over Forrest's Austin Geeting made the score 18-18 until Rocket sophomore Ivan Wentzel pinned Luke Lucas at 152-pounds.

Page re-knotted the match at 24 when Peter Leichner pinned Tanner Kerr and the Pats took the lead for the last time when Bryce Teague won a tight 10-9 decision over Bryan Clanton.

Boyce put the Rockets back on top in a dominating performance over Noe and Dillon Kydd followed with a forfeit win, putting Forrest in front 36-27.

Quick clincher

Tyler McClendon clinched the match with six more points on the Forrest tally sheet when the senior took down Eagleville's Chase Thoni in just 21 seconds.

Nikolas McGuiggan pinned Cody Sadler in the 285-pound weight class to give the Rockets a commanding 48-27 lead before Page's Vincent Ha pinned Dante Duncan to end the match.

Page beat the Eagles 47-30 in the second match, setting up the nightcap with Forrest taking on their neighbors from Eagleville, who came in shorthanded because they did not have their football players in form yet or at weight yet.

"The Eagleville team that we will face two weeks from now or a month down the road will be different team, but so will we," said Stacey. "Pre-Christmas in wrestling is about getting to the weight class you need to be in and then after that it's no holds barred."

Rockets vs. Eagles

Eagleville's Hayden Hammonds kicked the match off by winning a major decision (12-3) over Nick Tahmassebi in 126-pound weight class before Hargrove won by forfeit.

138-pounder Jacob Alverez pinned Forrest's Joseph Williams and Ryan Maddox picked up five points on a technical fall (17-2) over Austin Geeting, giving the Eagles a 15-6 lead.

Ivan Wentzel (152), Tanner Kerr (160), Bryan Clanton (170), and Jamie Boyce (182) all won by forfeit for FHS, giving the Rockets a 30-15 lead.

McClendon finished off the Eagles in style with an unbelievable five-second pin over Griffin Dodd in the 195-pound division and Kydd followed with another forfeit win for the Rockets.

John Hedgepath pinned Nikolas McGuiggan at 285, but consecutive forfeit wins by Forrest's Dante Duncan and Pendley made it 54-21 before Ellis Dodson pinned CJ Monce in the last match of the dual meet.

The Rockets take off for a couple of days before getting back to work, preparing for their next match on Dec. 5 at Harpeth with the host Indians, Beech, and Greenbrier.
