Stolen goods recovered, man in custody

Jason Lee Fisher, 30, was arrested by Marshall County Sheriff's Detective Jimmy Oliver on Oct. 3. Oliver and Capt. Bob Johnson were in the area of Woodbridge Road, west of Chapel Hill, where the burglaries occurred, when they saw Fisher "driving a vehicle without a tag," Johnson said.

When they pulled him over, the lawmen spotted some of the stolen property in the vehicle, and this led to Fisher's arrest.

Some of the stolen items were recovered in Smyrna, according to Johnson, and most of the rest was found at Fisher's apartment.

"We haven't gotten everything back that he stole," Johnson said, but most of it is now laid out on tables in the Sheriff's Department conference room.

Fisher was living in an apartment on Woodbridge Road and, according to Johnson, the landlord had no idea Fisher was robbing his neighbors.

"I guess he knew their schedules because he lived right there amongst them," Johnson said.

Fisher's method was to break in through a window or door and ransack the home, looking for valuables. He stole jewelry, coins, cash, and electronics, but he also took clothes, shoes, boots and camping equipment. Fisher took a gun safe from the last home he entered, and it was found at his apartment, still locked. Johnson said it looked as if Fisher was trying to break into it with a hammer, which was also found.

Victims may come to the Sheriff's Department to identify their property, Johnson said, and they can get it back after the court case.

The captain urges Marshall County residents to call the Sheriff's Department "if they see anything suspicious."

"We will check it out," Johnson promised.

If fact, while he and Oliver were driving slowly around the Woodbridge Road area in an unmarked car, a resident called the Sheriff's Department to report a strange vehicle.

Anyone with more information on these burglaries, or other crimes, can also call Crime Stoppers at 359-4867.

In addition to Johnson and Oliver, Detective Tony Nichols, and Deputies Keith Jolley and Paul Dalton participated in the operation.

Fisher remains in Marshall County Jail. His bond has been set at $52,000 and his court date is Oct. 11. According to public records, Fisher was released from prison on June 13.
