Storm over stormwater

CHAPEL HILL -- Stormwater flowing from a quarry in northwest Marshall County should be clear of sediment, according to state officials and the quarry's engineer, but area residents attending a meeting Tuesday remain fearful.

"I want to make sure the sites are policed as they should be," said Steve Everett of the River Glen subdivision across State Route 99 from the Pottsville Quarry operated by the Rogers Group that's next to the quarry operated by Marshall County Stone.

Marshall County Stone has applied for a permit to discharge stormwater from the quarry that was permitted by county officials last year. The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation is administering federal requirements for clean water.

Public comments are still being accepted by TDEC about stormwater that may flow from the Marshall County Stone site, but the meeting attended by 36 people Tuesday night at Henry Horton State Park included comments on a wider variety of issues.
