The Jail and Bail fundraiser set up to raise money for the New Beginnings Domestic Violence Center took place Friday, Nov. 22. The fundraiser began around 8 a.m. Those taking part in the fundraiser were able to place mock warrants for the "arrest" of a person of their choosing. The arrestees were then picked up by the participating officers and brought to the Historic First Avenue building where an imitation jail was set up. The arrestees were then given an amount of money to raise as bail by a "judge." Throughout the day participating deputies Jack Cathey and Travis Childress made over 20 arrests.

Some of those included in the arrests were local law enforcement officers themselves. Sheriff Norman Dalton for example was wanted for driving his wife crazy. Fire Chief Larry Williams was wanted for public nudity. Police Chief Chuck Forbis was arrested for being sarcastic in a no sarcasm zone. Captain Rebekah Mitchell was arrested for being a sticky note Nazi. Attorney David McKenzie was arrested for using too much hair grease, while his associate Debbie Zimmerlie was arrested for being dumb enough to put up with David McKenzie. All arrests were made in fun and for an excellent cause.

As of Monday morning, New Beginnings had raised approximately $2,300 but more donations were still being turned in to the center. The money will be used to pay for the utilities and supplies around the house. Though the donations made through the Jail and Bail fundraiser were all monetary, the center does accept donations in the form of nonperishable foods, cleaning supplies, hygiene items, baby items (diapers, wipes, bottles, etc), and toys for children.

"The fundraiser was very fun and a big success. Thank you all for the support and participation," said victims' advocate Crystal Gray.
