The Marshall County Tigerettes (7-6-1) snapped their three-game losing streak on Monday night when they went on the road and whipped the East Hickman Lady Eagles 5-0.

Marshall County controlled the contest from start to finish and built a 3-0 lead in the first half before tacking on two more goals in the second stanza en route to recording their fifth shutout of the year.

"We're trying to get prepared for our game against Lincoln County tomorrow and for our first round District tournament game against Spring Hill. I feel better about our chances tomorrow and about our chances against Spring Hill," said MCHS coach Mark Redferrin.

Overpowering

The Tigerettes dominated the action throughout the match and outshot East Hickman 28-0 overall.

"We were doing some different things offensively and had some people in some different spots. I thought the players picked things up quickly and executed well," said Redferrin. "We were able to play all of our younger players too and it's really nice anytime we can get them some field experience. I thought they played well when they came in."

Junior midfielder Peyton Gevedon scored two goals to lead the Tigerettes offensive attack, while Abbey Cross, Emily Spence, and Abbey Redferrin each tallied one goal with Cross notching an assist.

Goaltender Laura Hilliard was the lone bright spot for the Lady Eagles and finished with 23 saves in the contest.

No waiting

It took the Tigerettes just one minute to get on the board, as Gevedon lined a shot through Hilliard's hands from the top of the goalie box to stake Marshall County to a 1-0 lead after winning a loose ball in the middle of the field.

Marshall County then opened up a 2-0 advantage in the eighth minute thanks to a goal by Abbey Redferrin. After receiving a pass from Spence in the middle of the field, Redferrin had a line drive shot bounce off the top post of the goal, but she alertly chased down the rebound and kicked the ball into the lower right hand corner of the net.

In the 27th minute, Cross and Spence teamed up for a goal to extend MCHS' lead to 3-0. Cross dribbled around a East Hickman defender on the left side of the goal before dishing the ball off to Spence, who redirected the ball into the net with her stomach.

Big shots

Cross gave the Tigerettes a 4-0 advantage early in the second half when she beat a Lady Eagle defender on the left side of the field before rifling a close range shot over Hilliard's head that ricocheted off the bottom of the top post and into the net.

Gevedon then tallied her second goal of the game in the 59th minute by dribbling around an East Hickman defender on the right side of the field and blasting a 10-yard shot past Hilliard for the 5-0 final.
