When the second round of the District 12-AA Tournament moves to Lewisburg on Friday, the host Tigers will not be playing after losing 47-41 to Murfreesboro Central Magnet School (MCM) in Tuesday night’s first round contest at Lewisburg.

MCM faces top-seeded Community in the first semifinal on Friday night while Forrest, coming off an upset win at Giles County, takes on second-seeded Nolensville in the nightcap.

Marshall County’s Canelius Turner finished up a stellar career at Lewisburg with 13 points while Silas Hurt also had 13 for MCHS.

Turner had four 3-pointers in the contest, including a pair in a fourth quarter comeback attempt by the Tigers that just fell short.

Micah Harris led MCM in the scoring column with a game-high 16 points and Jayden Hernandez was also in double figures with 10 points, including a clutch 4-for-4 performance from the free throw line down the stretch to close out the win.

Central Magnet shot a solid 12-for-14 from the charity stripe in the contest while the hometown Tigers made just 4-of-9 from the free throw line, including a couple of missed one-and-one opportunities at the end of the first half.

It was nip and tuck most of the way with MCM leading 8-7 late in the first quarter before Marshall County took the lead on baskets by Jayden Hurt and Omarion Alred.

A Silas Hurt bucket gave Marshall County their biggest lead of the game at five points with three minutes to play in the first half.

MCHS missed the front end of two one-and-one opportunities from the free throw line that would have stretched their lead at the end of the first half, but led by just four points at 23-19, entering the second half.

Things were still looking pretty good for Marshall County as they led by seven points after a Jayden Hurt bucket with three minutes remaining in the third period.

One Jack Smith free throw and a late basket by Hernandez cut the MCHS lead to 30-26 at the end of the stanza.

Lewisburg went cold from the field to begin the fourth quarter and MCM got red-hot, going on a 13-0 run that was capped off by their lone 3-pointer in the game, a long bomb by Alec Ingraham that made it a 39-30 contest with four minutes remaining in the contest.

Marshall County finally got on the board with one made free throw by Alred and Turner drained back-to-back 3-pointers, slicing the MCM lead to two points at 39-37 with 2:07 left in the game.

Harris scored for Magnet before Silas Hurt buried a 3-pointer to slice the deficit to a single digit.

Hernandez was fouled at the other end and made both ends of the bonus opportunity, but Jayden Hurt scored in the paint for Lewisburg.

MCM missed a field goal, but Marshall County gave it right back on a turnover and Murfreesboro called timeout with 28.6 seconds left.

Hernandez calmly sank two more clutch free throws to make it a three-point game and then came up with the defensive play of the game when he swiped the rock and scored to seal the win and eliminate Lewisburg (10-14).
