After defeating Cascade 2-0 four days earlier, the Marshall County Tigers (7-3-2) stuck another feather in their cap on Tuesday night when they beat the Lincoln County Falcons 2-0 at home.

The two teams were locked in a 0-0 at the end of the first half, but the Tigers began to pick up their offensive pressure in the second stanza and outscored Lincoln County 2-0 over the final 40 minutes to claim their seventh victory of the season.

Big achievement

"This was the first time we've ever beaten Lincoln County so I'm very proud of them. We're getting better every game," said MCHS coach Lisa Raffo.

Bolstered by their second half offensive surge, Marshall County outshot the Falcons 31-29 overall. Jose Pineda scored both Tiger goals, while Luis Zarate and Luis Consuelo each registered an assist.

"At halftime, we systematically went through everything that we did well in the first half. They did everything I wanted them to do in the second half," said Raffo.. "I think we played a fast ballgame and spread them out wide. Every time we spread them out, we created a scoring attempt."

Zarate and Edwin Jaimes both attempted a team high seven shots for the Tigers, while Pineda and Ivan Leyva each took four shots. Misael Alvarez also fired three shots, and Victor Palma and Marvin Jaimes notched two shots apiece. David Martinez, Consuelo, and Renato Leon all registered one shot for Marshall County as well.

Strong in net

MCHS goaltender Evan Haislip turned in a strong performance in net and finished with 23 saves en route to recording his sixth shutout of the season.

Stephen Miller paced Lincoln County (2-5-3) with 15 shots, while Thomas Frye and Steven Ho both attempted four shots. Falcon goaltender Jacob Barcsansky made several tough saves and stopped 17 shots overall.

After both teams failed to find the back of the net in the first half, Barcsansky thwarted three Marshall County scoring attempts in the first four minutes of the second stanza, before Pineda finally broke the ice in the 48th minute when he headed in a long throw in from Zarate to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

No tie

Miller had a chance to tie the game in the 53rd minute when he momentarily got behind the MCHS defense, but he fired a close range shot over the net after being contested by a Marshall County defender.

The Tigers failed to convert on several scoring opportunities over the next 25 minutes before Pineda clinched the win for MCHS by tallying a goal in the 78th minute to push Marshall County's lead to 2-0. After receiving a pass from Consuelo in the middle of the field, Pineda rifled a 25-yard shot into the upper right hand corner of the net despite having the ball tipped by Barcsansky.
