The Marshall County Tigers ran their record to 5-3 on Friday morning when they defeated a mistake prone Greenbrier Bobcat squad 10-2 at Joe George Field in the Rocket/Tiger Holiday Classic.

MCHS finished with a modest eight hits and one walk against two Greenbrier pitchers, but the Bobcats aided Marshall County's cause by committing eight errors, which contributed to eight of the Tigers' 10 runs.

Grayson Wiles did the most damage at the plate for Marshall County, as he went 3-for-3 with a RBI and three runs scored. Aaron Hobbs (1 RBI), Matt Sharp (1 RBI), Hayden Bailey, Chandler Harmon, and Bubba Houghton each tallied one hit for the Tigers as well.

One year later...

"They beat us 3-1 here last year and we didn't hit real well.. They threw their best pitcher against us today and we swung the bats well. We hit some balls hard and forced them to make plays," said MCHS coach Steve Reese.

Greenbrier starting hurler Ryan Richardson suffered the loss after allowing eight runs, only two earned, on six hits and a walk over five and a third innings.

Marshall County starting hurler Ryan McDaniel went the distance on the mound to pick up the win, as he scattered seven hits and a walk in seven innings of work to go along with two strikeouts. The Tigers, meanwhile, committed just one error in the contest.

"McDaniel threw real well and we played good defense behind him. We're starting to get there. This team just needs to get some experience," said Reese.

Jake Miranda tallied three hits and a RBI to lead the Bobcats offensively, while Richardson had two hits.

Slow start

Greenbrier left a runner in scoring position in each of the first two innings before Marshall County grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third when Wiles raced home on a RBI single by Hobbs after legging out an infield single and advancing to second on a Bobcat throwing error.

In the top of the fourth, Greenbrier put runners on second and third with one out thanks to a walk by Kyle Kinle and a Miranda double, but McDaniel retired the next two Bobcat batters on a strikeout and a groundout to escape the inning unscathed.

The Tigers then stretched their lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth by plating three runs in the frame with the help of an infield single by Hayden Bailey and three Greenbrier errors.

In front to stay

MCHS took advantage of more shoddy defense by the Bobcats in the fifth inning when Wiles scored on an error after singling and advancing to third on a Hobbs sacrifice bunt and groundout by McKnight to make it 5-0.

Greenbrier tallied two runs in the top of the sixth on a leadoff single by Richardson, a Miranda RBI triple, and a RBI single by Blake Richards to narrow the gap to 5-2.

Marshall County, though, delivered the knockout blow in the bottom of the sixth and pushed across five runs in the frame thanks to a Harmon walk, a single by Houghton, two Bobcat errors, a wild pitch, and couple of RBI singles from Wiles and Sharp to open up a 10-2 advantage.

McDaniel then worked around a one-out single by Cameron Grogan in the top of the seventh with the aid of a 4-6-3 double play to wrap up the win for the Tigers.
