In 2012, the Gary Wells Cup matches began between the three county high school golf teams and for all five years, Wells' beloved Tigers have run away with the trophy by an average margin 55.8 strokes, including a huge 70-stroke win this season.
"You want to keep that streak going, you don't want to be that team to let it go somewhere else," Marshall County coach Arnett Bodenhamer said. "The guys got here the last three days and wanted to keep it home and they did their job, we had a couple hiccups here and there, but we finished it out."

The Tigers capped off three days of action on Wednesday at Saddle Creek Golf Club with a 474, 544, 607 win over Forrest and Cornersville respectively.
'Strong' play
"That was real strong, it would be good to get around to even par---to that state level," Bodenhamer said. "We have to work on our short game and we need to work on our conditioning."
Lewisburg's Tyler Wunderlin led the way for the Tigers, shooting 38-37-37-112 over the three day span to win the Jeff Jones low medalist honor.
"This feels great, I'm glad I got the opportunity to be out here," Wunderlin said. "My goal was to come out and make pars, not shoot for anything crazy, just shoot par."
Wunderlin, who bogeyed his first hole (#9), came back to shoot even par the rest of the way, including a birdie on the Par 5 first hole.
State hopes
"We definitely showed out as a team," Wunderlin said. "We are going for it all this year, we want to take Marshall County back to state and we have the top four to do it."
Wells Cup play started on Monday at Henry Horton where MCHS won easily, outdistancing second place Forrest 156-185.
Wunderlin shot 38 on the front nine of the Buford Ellington Golf Course, while Kasy Beard and Colton Barber both came to the clubhouse with identical three-over par 39's. Davis George rounded out the top four scores used with a 40.
No other players in the field broke 40 as Tim Elliott was low man for Forrest with a 41 and Raymond Cooksey and Joseph Mulliniks both had 49 for Cornersville.
Tuesday action
The Tigers widened their lead on Tuesday at the Ewell Butler Golf Course at the Lewisburg Rec Center, beating the Rockets 157-173.
Wunderlin fired a two-over par 37, George had 39, Beard 40 and Barber carded a 41.
Jarvis Lyttle was low man for the Rockets with a 41, while Cooksey had the low score for the Bulldogs with a 44.
Wednesday play
The Tigers returned to their home course on Wednesday, holding a commanding lead but they did not let up as Wunderlin secured the Jeff Jones medal with another 37, while George shot 39, Beard again shot 40 and Barber recorded his second straight 41 on the 3,077-yard nine holes.
Lyttle led the Rockets with a 41, Robert Garcia and Tim Elliott shot 43 and Hayden Pate rounded out the top four Forrest golfers with a 46.
Cooksey shot 46 to lead Cornersville all three days, while Joseph Mulliniks carded a 47, Hunt Jackson shot 50 and Tanner Reese rounded out the top four Bulldog golfers with a 57.
Girls
In girl's action, the score was much tighter between Forrest and Cornersville as the squads were separated by a single stroke going into Wednesday's final round at Saddle Creek.
On Monday at Henry Horton, Forrest won by one stroke 107-108 as senior Dani Hoeft shot 52 and Micah Toombs had a 55 for the Lady Rockets.
Carly Salsman's 53 led the Lady Bulldogs and Emma Reese carded a 55.
Tuesday was a deadlock between the two teams, both shooting identical 102's as Hoeft led all women golfers with a 44, Salsman had 49, Reese and Ellie Jackson both had 53 strokes and Toombs carded a 58.
Dani Hoeft (50) and Toombs (53) secured the cup on Wednesday, outdistancing Cornersville by 15 shots with Reese shooting 56 and Ellie Jackson 61.
