The changing of the seasons from summer to fall means a lot of events begin to happen in Marshall County.
For the county solid waste department, it means it’s time to host their annual Household Hazardous Waste day, paid for by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation.
On September 8 from 8 a.m. until noon, county and state solid waste professionals assisted residents in disposing harmful materials that can reside in your garage and under the sink. The event served 72 households from Marshall County and 5 from Williamson County and took in nearly 2,500 pounds of materials. Most of the hazardous waste taken was poisons, aerosols, fluorescent lamps, and flammable liquids.
If you were unable to participate in the collection event, Marshall County will host one next fall in either September or October. Until then, designate a place in your home for your household hazardous waste in a cabinet or on a shelf where children cannot reach them.
If you have questions about what qualifies as hazardous waste or what to place in a recycling container, contact Marshall County Solid Waste at 931-359-0547.
