The Marshall County Tigers came in to Thursday night’s intra-county rivalry game against Forrest with one thing on their minds, revenge from an earlier season loss to the Rockets at Lewisburg.
And they got it via close 56-52 win as senior Canelius Turner burned the nets for a game-high 33 points, including two 3-pointers and an ultra-stellar 15-for-17 performance from the free throw line.

“That was fun, it was a good game,” Turner said. “It was a close game, they put us on our toes, but we pulled it off.”
“I wanted it bad, I don’t like the way that we did it, but I’m glad we came back and got them back.”
Omarion Alred had 12 points, Silas Hurt had four, Carson Boyd netted three, Blake Hardison had a deuce, and Kaamil Hazel and Jayden Hurt had one point apiece.
Forrest had three players in double figures in the scoring column with Cole Villazon leading the way with 12 points.
Spencer McCown and Andrew Timmons were also in double figures with 11 and 10 points respectively while Hunter Bennett netted seven, Cameron Curtis had six, CJ Sanchez scored five, and Walker Herring had one made free throw.
The Tigers took early control with a 9-2 run to start the contest that was capped off by a Turner steal and dish to Alred on a fast break bucket.
Marshall County increased the lead to 10 points late on an Alred 3-pointer before the first period ended with the Tigers leading 15-6.
Turner stole the ball again to begin the second period and scored and after one Herring made throw, Turner scored and then made a deep three-bomb to give the Tigers a big 22-7 lead.
“I expected them to try to slow it down and take control of the game,” Turner said. “But they kind of played in to our hands and we like it like that.”
“I felt good, I had a good day of practice yesterday and was ready to come and win.”
Forrest dug in, staying in the game with 12-4 run that included a three-point play on a drive to the dish by Villazon and a long 3-pointer by CJ Sanchez that cut the MCHS lead to 26-19 at the end of the first half.
The action was intense as the third quarter began and the two teams battled back and forth before the Tigers opened up some daylight to lead by 10 points at the end of the period.
The Rockets came back again, buoyed by a Curtis steal and dunk that was part of an 8-0 run to begin the fourth period, slicing the MCHS lead to 40-38 with just over five minutes to go in the game.
The Tigers pushed back, building their lead back to nine points after an Alred three-point play on a drive to the dish.
With 2:44 left in the contest, a Hunter Bennett 3-pointer cut the Marshall County lead to five points at 48-43, only to see the Tigers move out in front by nine points again after a 5-1 mini-run capped off by two made free throws by Turner with 1:23 left in the contest.
Bennett drilled another 3-pointer out of the stoppage to make it a six-point game and Andrew Timmons cut the MCHS lead to three on a long bomb with 41 seconds left in the ballgame.
Turner iced the game from the free throw line, making three out of four down the stretch to seal the win for the Tigers.
“We had to take care of the ball at the end,” Turner said. “I was trying to make them and get a win for my team and keep our winning streak going.”
