A young man who was a crime victim has now been charged with committing serious crimes himself. Jordan A. Beavers, 18, of Shelbyville was with his uncle, Joey Perryman, on Aug. 7, 2011, when Perryman was shot to death by Phillip Burgess. Beavers was hit in the shoulder, but made a full recovery and was one of the witnesses at Burgess' trial.

At their July meeting, the grand jury handed down a number of indictments, including one for Beavers, who was charged with aggravated assault, assault, two counts of aggravated child abuse, domestic assault, and evading arrest.

According to documents in Beavers' case file, police were called to Hillside Terrace Apartments on July 6, 2013, because a fight was in progress.

"The defendant fled on foot from Hillside Terrace Apartments after assaulting multiple people, including a juvenile, at the apartments," reported Lewisburg Police Officer Clyde Ragsdale. One of the women Beavers assaulted was the mother of his child.

Other indictments included the following:

* David G. Adams, 29, of Belfast Farmington Road, was charged with three counts of aggravated statutory rape. Adams allegedly raped a girl who was 15 years old at the time of their first encounter in December 2012. He raped her again during July 2012, and in February 2013.

* Terrance L. Winborn, 36, of Gadsden, Ala. was charged with two counts of forgery and one count of criminal simulation. All three counts relate to one check for $2,985.23, supposedly issued in Winborn's name by Trigreen Equipment of Athens, Ala. Winborn allegedly presented the check for payment at First Farmers and Merchants Bank here on June 12, 2013.

* Steven P. Jones, 50, of Culleoka, was charged with driving after being declared a Habitual Motor Vehicle Offender, as well as driving on a revoked license, and speeding. Jones was allegedly doing 71 mph in a 55 mph zone on US Hwy 431 when he was pulled over on Jan. 3, 2013.

* Rudy V. Dunn, 45, of Nashville, was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell and deliver it. On April 9, 2013, Dunn was stopped at Mile Marker 32 on I-65 by Agent Shane Daugherty of the 17th Judicial District Drug Task Force, and approximately one pound of marijuana was found in his car.

* Jennifer Rose White Dawes, 21, of Bark Street, was charged with one count of Tenncare fraud.

Readers are reminded that indictment constitutes only charges and under the American system of justice, every person is presumed innocent until they plead guilty or their guilt has been proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
