The Marshall County Tigerettes hit the road Friday night to Unionville to face the Community Viqueens, hoping to get back on the winning track after suffering their first District 12-AA loss to Nolensville.
The Tigerettes fell victim to a second half surge by the Viqueens, who used a pressure defense and some timely shooting by Zoey Dixon to edge MCHS 38-33.
The Tigerettes only had three players in the scoring column with Dionna Crutcher scoring 19 points, Kelsey Keiler had eight, and Karlye Wiser had two 3-pointers for six points.

The Tigerettes fell victim to a second half surge by the Viqueens, who used a pressure defense and some timely shooting by Zoey Dixon to edge MCHS 38-33.
The Tigerettes only had three players in the scoring column with Dionna Crutcher scoring 19 points, Kelsey Keiler had eight, and Karlye Wiser had two 3-pointers for six points.
“They out played us, we turned the ball over too much and we couldn’t score,” MCHS coach David Steely said. “We scored 12 points in the second half and you’re not going to beat many teams like that.”
“I’ve got to do a better job getting us ready and during the game. We’re still in second place and we have to get ready to play Giles County next Tuesday night.”
Crutcher scored the game’s first points on a jumper from the right side and Wiser rained down a 3-pointer to put MCHS in the lead 5-0.
Allison Brothers scored a basket for Community before Keiler did the same to up the Tigerettes’ lead to 7-2.
A 3-pointer by Community’s Jesa Moore cut the lead, but Crutcher put an exclamation mark on the first quarter when she knocked down a 3-pointer and MCHS led 10-5 at the end of the period.
Community’s Haley Mitchell drained a 3-pointer and Moore scored a basket, but the duo of Crutcher and Keiler responded and pushed the MCHS lead to seven at 17-10.
Moore got another 3-three-pointer to cut the MCHS lead to four points, but Keiler and Crutcher went back to work and the Tigerettes lead 21-13 at the half.
The third quarter saw Community up the defensive pressure with a three quarter court press and the Tigerettes struggled to beat it.
The Viqueens got scoring from MJ Simmons with a basket and a 3-pointer by Brianna Whitaker to cut the MCHS lead to three points at 21-18.
Crutcher put in two baskets to push the lead back to seven points, but Community responded with two baskets by Moore to edge closer again.
Crutcher scored again for MCHS, but Moore sank a free throw and Mitchell scored a basket for Community before time ran out in the third quarter with the Tigerettes leading 27-25.
The final quarter began with pressure being applied by Community and Crutcher was fouled and went to the line and sank two free throws.
When Wiser sank a 3-pointer for the Tigerettes at the 6:35 mark of the quarter the lead was seven points for MCHS, 32-25.
Keiler went to the bench with her fourth foul at the 4:36 mark and this where the game turned.
The defensive pressure with Keiler on the bench caused turnovers that Community took advantage of with Moore scoring a basket and sinking a free throw to make the score 32-28.
Both teams had committed their seventh team foul with three minutes left in the game, but Community was the one going to the free throw line to shoot one-and-one with Whitaker sinking two to make it 32-30.
Crutcher sank a free-throw for MCHS and Moore sank one for Community.
Dixon sank a 3-pointer from the left side with 1:05 left in the game to make the score 34-31 and then Dixon stole the ball and was fouled by Crutcher.
An intentional foul was called on the play and Dixon made 1-of-2 and on the ensuing inbounds play, Dixon was fouled again and sank another free throw to make the score 36-33 with 27.5 seconds left.
Breanna Beech sank a free throw and Moore did the same for Community as the final horn sounded on an improbable comeback victory for Community.
