Playing their fourth game in six days, the Marshall County Tigerettes (5-3-1) ran out of steam on Saturday afternoon when they were defeated 5-0 on the pitch by a talented Community Viqueen squad at home.

Community (4-2) controlled the game from start to finish and built a 3-0 lead in the first half before tacking on two more goals over the final 40 minutes to cruise to their fourth straight victory over MCHS.

The Viqueens put almost constant pressure on Marshall County's net and outshot the Tigerettes 21-4 overall.

Tough foe

"Community is a very good team. They have played some tough competition and done very well. We got off to a slow start, but in the second half we were a lot more competitive. You've got to be competitive in both halves though," said MCHS coach Mark Redferrin. "This is our fourth game in six days and fatigue did set in a little bit, but we can't use that as an excuse."

The Viqueens featured a balanced offensive attack, as Jordan Huntley, Kristen Brothers, Mercedes Huntley, Taylor Thompson, and Courtney Williams scored one goal apiece with Brothers and Mercedes Huntley each recording an assist. Community goaltender Dora Ramos notched three saves en route to recording the shutout.

Midfielder Sophia Raffo paced the Tigerettes with two shots, while Clara Wilson and Abbey Redferrin each attempted one shot. Marshall County goalie Alexis Ford held up well under the Viqueen barrage and finished with 16 saves.

'Better and better'

"Alexis was peppered in the first half and she responded really well. We did a better job defensively in the second half, but she continues to get better and better," said Mark Redferrin.

Community took a 1-0 lead just six minutes into the contest when Jordan Huntley won a loose ball in the middle of the field and launched a 25-yard shot into the upper right hand corner of the net.

Ford made a lunging save on a close range shot by Brothers in the 10th minute, but Brothers lined a 15-yard shot just inside the left post in the 15th minute to give the Viqueens a 2-0 lead after receiving a pass from Mercedes Huntley on the right side of the field.

Mercedes Huntley extended Community's lead to 3-0 in the 28th minute when she stole the ball from a Tigerettes player in the middle of the field and blasted a close range shot past Ford.

Chances fail

Marshall County had a handful of chances to cut into the deficit, but were unable to find the back of the net. After catching a header by Raffo late in the first half, Ramos stopped a direct kick by Redferrin early in the second stanza before Wilson fired a close range shot over the Viqueen goal in the 56th minute.

The Viqueens then stretched their lead to 4-0 in the 59th minute when Thompson ran up and kicked in a rebound after Ford deflected a long range shot by Brothers.

In the 68th minute, Williams capped the scoring for Communinty by dribbling around a MCHS defender and lacing a close range shot into the upper half of the net for the 5-0 final.
