"Who (Jesus Christ) gave Himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto Himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works." - Titus 2:14 All believers have been redeemed by the blood of Christ and purified unto Him. As a result we are called a peculiar or special people zealous of good works. ...

"The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso puts his trust in the LORD shall be safe." - Proverbs 29:25 We live in a day where riotous protest, shootings, and terror attacks have become part of the norm. As a result it is easy to be concerned about the fear of man as we try to live out our lives. Yet, while many live their lives in this kind of fear they have been ensnared by the horrible actions of a few. When this happens one becomes nervous, worried, and afraid. This kind of fear is obvious...

Freedom comes with responsibility. Responsibility comes with risk and late last year there were some remarkable reactions to information reported during a public meeting of a private group in Marshall County. A Lewisburg man complained that his wife's medical exam included a doctor's questionnaire asking if she had guns and how they are stored, locked, loaded and where bullets are kept...

Parades are a lot of fun. Chapel Hill and Lewisburg had Christmas parades last weekend. They must have had fun in Chapel Hill because the town administrator had to ask people who rode four-wheelers in the parade to pick them up at Forrest School instead of riding them back through town. Boys can't wait to drive...

Return with us now to those thrilling days of the 1960s when Janis Joplin sang the disturbing lyrics: "Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose." Really, now that "Peace is at hand," again, as the secretary of state said during the Vietnam War, it's amazing how the nearly adult among us dress in rebellious robes...

Reactions continue against the Obama Administration's retracted policy that would have required religious organizations and businesses they support such as hospitals to provide health insurance for birth control, abortion, sterilization and, according to some interpretations of the Health and Human Services edict, the morning-after pill...

Today we're presenting a double feature on the broadsheet of our "big picture" page of quasi-local events. Across Marshall's western border, voters are being asked to decide whether Columbia and Maury County should merge and be governed under a metropolitan charter. Usually campaigns against something win...

The great American humorist, Will Rogers, is quoted because of answers to our question of the week below. Did the president fix it? This column is about what some folks have called one of the first things they turn to when they get their Tribune. Surprised me. Obituaries are frequently called one of the best-read columns in any paper. People supposedly look to see if they're listed there...

WASHINGTON (Feb. 16) -- In a speech on the floor of the U.S. Senate, Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) called on Congress to reject any efforts to "put in the payroll tax agreement a four-year extension of the so-called production tax credit," calling it "a big loophole for the rich and for the investment bankers."...

Maxine Henderson married a man who became one of the biggest oil distributors in the area and he had a pool table and friends came in and enjoyed their home and companionship. They also enjoyed her art. Her landscapes, still life paintings and portraits ranged from impressionistic to faithful oils portraying people doing ordinary things. One of those was what became known as "Nude Gwen."...
