Betty Earman Cobb Willingham

Betty Earman Cobb Willingham died peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, May 30, 2013, at the age of 102.

She grew up in Pell City, Ala., lived in Lewisburg and Johnson City, Tenn., and Birmingham and Clinton, Ala. before moving to Talladega, Ala. in 1977. Clinton was her ancestral home and she had many fond memories of her Clinton community in Greene County, where she visited frequently.

Mrs. Willingham was a graduate of Alabama College, now the University of Montevallo, and returned there in the late 1960s to serve as Assistant to the Dean of Women. She was an Elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Talladega, an honorary member of the Presbyterian Women, and member and former president of the Lydia Sunday School Class, past president of the Argus Club, past Regent of the Andrew Jackson Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a docent at Heritage Hall, a member of the Landmarks Foundation, and a member of Antique Talladega.

She was preceded in death by her husband Wasson Stone "Snow" Willingham of Talladega, Ala. Her first husband, Conway Austin Cobb of Anniston, Ala., died in 1960. She is survived by one daughter, Mary Kate Cobb Smith of Lewisburg; two stepchildren, Sandy Willingham Godbey and William Joseph "Bill" Willingham of Talladega; three grandchildren. Leslie Leigh Nease of Memphis, Ronald Martin "Bo" Smith of Bell Buckle, and Scott Austin Smith of Nashville; nephew, Charlie Thomas Gray of Birmingham, and niece, Katie Ann Roe of Pell City; and great-grandchildren; and many, many cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 7, at the First Presbyterian Church in Talladega with a reception immediately following. A graveside service for the family will be held at Valley Hill Cemetery in Pell City that afternoon.
