James E. "Jimmy" West Sr., 93, of Chapel Hill, died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, in Nashville.
Mr. West was born in Williamson County, and was a son of the late Mamie McKay and George Williamson West Sr. He served as a medic in the United States Army during World War II and was a lifelong dairy farmer. Mr. West was a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church for over 54 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James Edward "Jim" West Jr., who died in 2007; and by sisters, Sally Sawyer, Dixie Sawyer, and Helen Hulme; and brothers, Freelin, G.W., Jr., Milton, and Allen "Mack" West.
Mr. West is survived by his wife of 67 years, Nelle Watkins West of Chapel Hill; son, Joe W. (Joy Clay) West of Tifton, Ga.; two grandchildren, Rachel and Jordan West of Tifton, Ga.; loyal employee and friend, Alvin Ingram of Chapel Hill; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Sept. 8, from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Rev. Marc West and Rev. Jimmy Hendrix officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Franklin.
Jordan West, Alvin Ingram, and nephews of Mr. West served as pallbearers.
