It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Jo Anne Chapman of the Possum Trott Community, after an extended sickness.  She passed away on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2022, at the age of 75, at her residence.

She was born on Feb. 23, 1947, to Clifford Otto and Mabel Roberta Cressy Chapman at Camp Lejeune, NC.

Throughout her life, Jo exhibited care and skill in everything she did. She was a top student and track runner in high school. She impressed her art instructors at the University of Texas at Austin with her inspired paintings of people and scenery. She was the trusted manager of food and beverage service during performances of Stevie Ray Vaughn and other famous acts at the Armadillo World Headquarters in Austin. After moving back home, she delighted in providing diners with meals just how they liked them at eateries throughout the Marshall County, including Rollo’s BBQ, Delina Crossroads Market, Tina’s Place, and Parson’s Pharmacy. Her genuine interest in the people she crossed paths with always shined through, making even a brief conversation with her sure to elevate anyone’s mood.

Jo was an avid lover of all animals, but most notably horses.  She also loved spending time in the kitchen, creating delicious meals for her family and friends.

She is survived by her son, Will Brown; her sister, Widge Cressy; her sister-in-law, Jackie Chapman; nephew, Chris (Sherry) Chapman; and niece, Laurie Reeves.

She is preceded by her parents and her brother, Pete Chapman.

Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 5, 2023, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the chapel at Bills McGaugh & Hamilton Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Friday, Jan. 6, 2023, at 2 p.m. until the time of the service at 3 p.m. Ron Kleine is officiating Jo’s service, with burial following at Short Cemetery.
