Funeral services for Mary Ruth Simmons, 71, of Shelbyville were held Tuesday, June 4, 2013, in the chapel of Doak-Howell Funeral Home, with Brother Scotty Sorrells officiating. Burial followed in the Booneville Cemetery in Lincoln County. Mrs. Simmons passed from this life early Sunday morning, June 2, 2013, at her residence after an extended illness.

A lifelong resident of Bedford County, she was the daughter of the late Jim and Annie Smith Nichols, and was preceded in death by brothers Bill and Earl Nichols. Mary Ruth retired from National Pen Corp in Shelbyville after 32 years of service. She was a member of Whiteside United Methodist Church and was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

Survivors include her husband of 31 years, Bill Simmons; son, Charlie (Tammy) Crosslin; daughter, Judi (Frank) Cartwright; two grandchildren, Jake and Jacey Beth Cartwright; and brother, Frank (Alice) Nichols, all of Shelbyville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Whiteside United Methodist Church Youth Fund, Attn: Gwen Dehne, 279 Mullins Chapel Road, Shelbyville, TN 37160.
