Ralph Ezell Reed, 85, retired employee of Union Carbide and resident of Rinks Circle, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at Maury Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, Feb. 28, at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Adrian Jones officiating. Burial followed in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. Family and friends served as pallbearers.
The Davidson County native was the son of the late Herchell B. Reed and Lucille Ezell Reed. On Sept. 16, 1950, he married Sara M. "Peggy" Shires Reed who preceded him in death on Jan. 12, 1992. Mr. Reed served in the U. S. Army/Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19 and La Societe 40 & 8 Voiture 1394. He was also a member of the Operating Engineers Local 912.
Survivors include two daughters, Karon (Tony) Johnson of Lewisburg and Connie Reed of Cincinnati, Ohio; one son, Royce Rebel (Sheryl) Reed of Columbia; one sister, Katherine Jane (James) Wells of Castalian Springs; sister-in-law, Margaret Reed of Spring Hill; three grandchildren, Larissa Hunter (Jonathan) Thomas and Matthew L. (Catherine) Hunter, both of Lewisburg, and Scott Prentice of Columbia; one stepgrandchild, Rainey Hall of Columbia; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Reed was preceded in death by his brother, J. Douglas Reed, who died in 1978.
