CHAPEL HILL — Following a brief start to the District 9A-AA golf match on Monday morning at Henry Horton Golf Course, players were instructed to return to the clubhouse after torrential rains doused the course.
Following an approximate two-hour rain delay, the match was shortened from the planned 18-hole match to just nine holes.
In the end, the Forrest Rockets took second overall as a team to continue their season, while the Cornersville Lady Bulldogs also took second.
Both teams will advance to the upcoming Region 5-A tournament, which will be held on Monday at Henry Horton.
Lady Rocket golfer Maggie Browning also earned a trip to the region match as an individual qualifier as well.
Two-time defending state champion Evan Woosley-Reed of Cascade won the match with a 35 score, while Tatyana Greene won the girls’ match with a final score of 44.
Sebastian Thompson posted the lowest score for the Rockets and finished with a 44 overall, good enough for a third-place finish in the individual standings.
Noah Brown turned in a 45, while Kelton Grubbs carded a 46.
Trey Williamson rounded out the varsity scoring for the second-place Rockets with a 50.
As a team, the Rockets finished with a 184, just one stroke behind team-winner Richland.
For the Bulldogs, it was the end of the road as Cornersville turned in a final score of 265.
Micah Riddle posted the lowest score for the Bulldogs with a 57. Caden Downs and Coby Gibson each shot a 57, while Braxton Hunter turned in a 74.
On the girls’ side of the match, the Lady Bulldogs were led by Annabelle Mulliniks finished second overall, shooting a 46 to lead the Lady Bulldogs.
Braylin Powers and Jayli Childress each shot a 57.
For the Lady Rockets, Maggie Browning earned a region berth as an individual qualifier, shooting a 53.
Ava Edmondson finished with a 65 and as a team, the Lady Rockets turned in a 118 final score.
The qualifiers will advance to the region match held at Henry Horton on Monday at Henry Horton.
