Mrs. Virginia Frances Philpott Bradford, 87, longtime resident of Lewisburg, died on Wednesday, July 17, 2019, at NHC Oakwood. A funeral service will be conducted on Friday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Bills-McGaugh & Hamilton Funeral Home with Brother Rick Rolin officiating. Mrs. Virginia Frances Philpott Bradford, 87, longtime resident of Lewisburg, died on Wednesday, July 17, 2019, at NHC Oakwood.

A funeral service will be conducted on Friday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Bills-McGaugh & Hamilton Funeral Home with Brother Rick Rolin officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Park Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Bills-McGaugh & Hamilton.

Born on Aug. 1, 1931, in Bedford County, she was the daughter of the late William Thomas Philpott, Sr. and the late Mary Dessie Hasty Philpott. At the young age of 15, Virginia learned how to cook and run a house, after her mother got sick. She married Leonard Aubrey “L.A.” Bradford, Jr. on Oct. 23, 1948. They enjoyed 47 wonderful years of marriage, before his passing on Aug. 15, 1996. Mrs. Bradford retired from Cosmolab after 14 years as a machine operator. She was a member of Lewisburg First Baptist Church and also attended New Life Church. In her free time, she enjoyed fishing and crossword puzzles.

Survivors include her daughters, Mary Bell Bradford (Joe) Jett of Town Creek, AL, Margaret Jane Bradford (Steve) Jones of Lewisburg, Lisa Mechelle Bradford (James “Bubba”) Essary; son-in-law, Lamarr Haislip of Lewisburg; seven grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren and fourteen great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a daughter, Connie Gail Bradford Haislip; sisters, Gladys Ruth Garrison, Lou Ella Pinkston, Eva Christine Gilliland, Gertrude Thompson; brothers, James Riggs Philpott, William Thomas Philpott, and Charles Philpott.
