Walter Lee Martin, 60, of Unionville, a lifelong resident of Bedford County, died Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013, at his home, surrounded by his family and numerous friends.

He was the son of the late Walter Martin and Billie Tompkins Martin.

Walter was a graduate of Community High School, Class of 1971, where he excelled in basketball. He retired after 22 years as a Sears appliance repair service technician, and operated Martin's Appliance Repair Service since 1996. He resided on his family farm in Unionville where he lovingly cared for his cows and chickens, but his greatest love was spending time on the farm with his grandchildren and going to the Country Diner in Chapel Hill daily for fellowship with friends. Walter was a friend to many as shown by the approximately 500-plus friends and family members who visited him during his last days. His Christian faith will be remembered by all he touched.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Maryllian Martin Cochran and Linda Martin Gyurnek.

Mr. Martin is survived by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 42 years, Amy Fulton Martin; his son, Lee (Christy) Martin; daughter, Susan Martin (Bryan) Pearson; and son, Jon (Leslie) Martin, all of Unionville; grandchildren, Alex Martin (Corey) Mullins, Sara Beth, Christopher, and Peyton Martin, Savannah, Brayden, Brianna Pearson, Brandon Pearson-Alford, and Hadley Kate and Bella Reese Martin; great-grandchildren, Addison and Cayden Mullins; and mother--in-law, Willene Bullock Fulton. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Tommy Armstrong, who was the brother Walter never had; and, finally, by a host of in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Hannah and Bro. Mark Hall officiating. Burial will follow at Maxwell Cemetery in the Rover Community of Bedford County.

The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Community Alumni Association in care of Renee Yoes, 985 Longview Road, Shelbyville, TN 37160.

Lawrence Funeral Home and Cremation Services in charge of arrangements.
